its been THE premier game of the home and away season for nearly 2 decades. It hasnt lost popularity over night and to suggest so is moronic. Fact is it was one of 4 games played on a Saturday, not an isolated game on a public holiday. It was always going to rate far less than previous years.

Yet it still absolutely spanked the NRL's ANZAC day for ratings and crowds

It has been the premier game of the AFL for decades. I agree. Its a fairly new concept to the NRL- but as you can see its working - cyclones, power outages, delays . After all that ratings are up - and the biggest increase was in Melbourne - Wow eee

surprised they were that high. Horrible decision by the AFL to show Carlton 3 Friday nights out of 5. Theyve been thrashed each time. In fact there are numerous threads on BF complaining about the AFLs fixturing for FN games this year. 5 rounds in and we are yet to see a single team play that finished higher than 8th last year, let alone a decent match between good teams. What gives???
