Rugby league receives landmark support in Pacific
The Australian Government have also included funding support for an elite-level Rugby League team in Fiji to compete in the New South Wales Rugby League Intrust Super Premiership - one of the two official second-tier rugby league competitions in Australia and the Pacific.
"These announcements are part of the Australian Government's commitment to the Australia-Pacific Sports Linkages Program which will deliver $40 million in grants over five years to support the development of sport throughout the Pacific," Minister Payne said.

Re: PACIFIC NATIONS
Fiji and PNG heading towards NRL licences with government backing
Fiji’s bid for a NSW Cup side received a major boost on Friday, with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison committing funding to the group’s efforts.
“I am happy to announce that we will be helping fund Fiji’s pathway into the New South Wales Rugby League’s Intrust Super Premiership,” Morrison said from Suva.
Clubs can only take a risk on a limited number of local kids because of visa costs and other expenses, so a Fiji-based team in one of the NRL’s second tier competitions would open a gateway to the largely untapped potential throughout the Pacific.
he Hunters have made the finals every year, and won their inaugural premiership in 2017.
They now have the backing of the NSW Labor Party, which last year pledged to help ensure the Hunters are granted an NRL licence if they come to power.
The ALP is looking beyond rugby league at foreign policy initiative but it’s also crucial for the game’s continued growth.

Re: PACIFIC NATIONS
You seem more obsessed with afl’s international presence than afl people. The reason afl people don’t care is cause we know it will never happen. Don’t care if it does or doesn’t . ambivalent. But I get it... it’s something to hang the hat of rl on I guess. I wonder if union fans did that the rl fans before union become irrelevant in this country ? Do soccer fans do this ? Not sure.

Re: PACIFIC NATIONS
Look at Essendon getting all wound up.
It makes him so angry that AFL can't get Pacific nations to follow his sport like the rugby codes.
